Do you know anyone who has difficulty remembering how to do basic calculations, such as dividing up a restaurant bill or how much money 20% off a pair of trousers saves you?
I’ve just finished putting together a website and YouTube channel featuring short simple videos explaining just such calculations.
They were made by Tessa Tulloch, a maths tutor, when she was teaching adults who had either forgotten or never learned to do basic maths. As you will see, her mission was to restore their confidence and persuade them that they could!
Here’s the website.
In case you’re wondering why the YouTube channel, it’s the obvious place to put videos if you don’t want to pay. Besides, it’s not a good idea to slow a website down with big video files.
Here’s the YouTube channel.
This project was a great joint effort. It involved:
- Tessa Tulloch, maths tutor with years of experience teaching and explaining maths with patience and understanding
- Adrian Harvey, expert photographer who made the videos, took the photos and produced the logo
- Me (Susannah) web consultant, who planned and wrote the website text and organised the videos on the YouTube channel
- David Ross (no relation), WordPress expert who produced and hosted the website.
I hope you have fun trying some of the videos. They include how to multiply by nine, using your fingers.
