Will they get the message?

A manual for makers of educational radio and television programmes
by Susannah Ross and Hazel Slavin
Will they get the message? a manual for makers of educational radio and television programmes

The manual was written for radio and television producers in Yemen in 2002 as part of a family planning project funded by the European Commission and managed by Options health consultancy.

It is short (44 pages), written in simple language, with translation in mind, and could be used in different countries. Although it takes its examples from family planning, it is easily adaptable to other topics.

The topics covered include:

  • how we communicate ideas
  • principles of programme making
  • planning your programme
  • interviewing
  • making a radio programme
  • making a television programme
  • listening, viewing and reviewing
