Australian journalist Peter Greste and his two Al Jazeera colleagues, Mohamed Fadel Fahmy and Baher Mohamed, who were arrested in Egypt six months ago, have been sentenced to seven years in jail. They were charged with spreading false news and supporting the Muslim Brotherhood. I am horrified.
I worked with Peter many years ago when he was with the BBC and I was a journalist in the BBC World Television newsroom. I wrote about the international campaign for his release, and the concern for journalists in Egypt, in a post called Free Peter Greste.
